Hussain Obaid is one of the most prominent Omani plastic artists, and one of the most important
names that contributed to shaping the features of the contemporary Omani plastic arts movement.
He was born in Muscat in 1968. He held (10) solo exhibitions during the period from 1991 to 2014,
and participated in numerous group art exhibitions inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, where his works were displayed in many countries such as: Belgium, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Algeria, Egypt, China, Kuwait, Tunisia, Bangladesh, India, Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands, France,
Mexico, Italy, America, Spain, and others.


Hussain Obaid is distinguished by his artistic presence in international participations, festivals and
artistic gatherings. He is a member of many prestigious artistic bodies, such as: the Youth Studio, the Cultural Club, the Omani Society for Fine Arts, the International Association of Fine Arts affiliated with UNESCO in Paris, and the International Organization of Artists 21 in South Korea.
He has received many artistic and appreciation awards at the local and international levels in
recognition of his outstanding participation and contributions. He also participated as a member of
prominent artistic judging committees, including the judging committee in the first session of the
Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature in 2012.


In 2006, Hussain Obaid participated as a principal preparer of the TV program (Aafaq thakafia) which was broadcast on the Sultanate of Oman TV. He also contributed to documenting and developing contributed to documenting and developing the plastic movement in the Sultanate of Oman through his creative works and artistic articles published in newspapers and magazines. He authored a two-volume book entitled (Contemporary Omani Visual Achievement) which was launched in 2024. This book is considered an important reference for researchers and those interested in Omani plastic art.


His artworks are present in many art museums and official bodies and institutions in the Sultanate of Oman and around the world, such as: Contemporary Art Museum, Krabi - Thailand, Arab Museum of Modern Art, Qatar, The Jordan National Museum, The National Museum of Oman, Oman Across Ages Museum, Bait Al Zubair Museums, Oman, UNESCO, Paris, Royal Court Affairs, Oman, Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Oman, Ministry of Information, Oman, The Omani Society for Fine Arts, Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort, Muscat, Oman Arab Bank, Muscat, Wyndham Grand
Regency Hotel, Qatar... etc. In addition to many private collectibles inside and outside of Oman.


Anyone who examines Hussain Obaid’s entire body of work will find that the harmony between
material and metaphysical elements serves as an effective means of affirming Omani cultural and
spiritual identity. The painting here is not merely an aesthetic element; it goes beyond that, becoming a medium for expressing emotional and historical heritage. This visual specificity represents a journey of exploration into the symbolic dimension, as Obaid seeks, through his works inspired by the aesthetics of the local environment and reality, to depict the places, times, and ancient visuals preserved by memory. These visuals are associated with childhood homes, symbols, signs, and ancient writings etched on their bright walls in aesthetic forms that transcend superficiality, delving into the depths of Omani cultural and civilizational heritage.
